Innova, the north star... Thursday, Jan. 06, 2005, 8:14 p.m.
In case I forgot to mention, I got into Innova Junior College this year. As fas as I'm concerned, I'm proud to be in this school! It's been four days, and I've gone through lots of activities. Finally, after four days, I can safely say that my OG (Orientation Group) has finally bonded together. The theme for our orientation was "Genisis: A Star is born". I realised that's a line everyone enjoys repeating... Anyway, the Orientation groups have been named after constellations, and my group is named "Vulpecula". Vulpecu-wha?? Yea, its really hard to remember the name. Anyway, Vulpecula was supposed to be the constellation of the fox, so we renamed ourselves the Foxes! As a new school, there weren't any seniors, so our OGFs (The Fascillitators) are our teachers. We're lucky to have Mr Sim as our OGF. He's a really fun teacher! And after I volunteered for our first ice-breaker activity, my team ended up making me the team representative! Anyway, my team's full of fun people too! There's 16 of us, 6 girls and 10 guys from schools all over singapore. Met lots of christians in my group too! Really cool. I guess the only thing bad about this is that the building isn't done yet. At this point, only the admin block, the 3 lecture theatres, the canteen and 4 blocks are open, which is okay for us since we don't have any J2 students. But from what I can see at the construction sites, its gonna look really awesome after it's done! The canteen will have a beautiful view of the field, there's this park in the middle of everything, and there's a huge field just a little smaller than the one our neighbour, the Singapore Sports School, has. Really nice. They're expected to be done by April. Oh, and did I mention I had a really odd experience on the first day of school? That's cos for the first time in my life, I CAN WAKE UP AT 6:30, AND STILL HAVE FREE TIME!! This morning, I woke up at about 7, and calculated the time it takes to get to school by bus. Get this: 7 minutes!! Haha... Anyway, in my opinion, your attitude is very important when it comes to these kinda things. If you go to school expecting boredom, and get easily annoyed, you'll hate school. If you go there expecting wonderful experiences, that's what you get. In other words, what you say is what you get. I've been reading some blogs and I found people hating their orientations. But on the other hand, there were some people that really enjoyed their orientation from the same school! That's what I mean... I really enjoyed Innova, and I'll most probably stay. But for those of you who hate your JC, or cannot take the orientation, and you're filled with anger or boredom or frustration, take it from me, its not the school, its you. You have too want to enjoy it... - Daniel
