My past week (Part 1)

Saturday, Dec. 04, 2004, 1:41 p.m.

The past few days were pretty exciting for me. Here's my recap:

25th to 27th November (Thursday to Saturday)
I went to work for Inexus at SITEx from last Thursday to Saturday.

It feels great to spend your time more meaningfully. I met Derek at 9 at Causeway Point, where Mr Ong would drive us over to the Expo. We sold a lot more stuff this time. As usual, we sold MP3 players. But this time, we also had camera pouched, mobile phone accessories, PDA accessories, Portable Media Recorders, and even the Robosapien!

This time, they hired more people. Other than Derek and I, their's Ong, and Chiang of course. Apparently, Chiang got a girlfriend over the year, so she's here to. I heard she took leave just to come help him! Aww... so sweet... Anyway, there's also Yellow and Vanessa. Yellow happened to be one of the models from the Motorshow, and Vanessa was her friend... Why are you looking at me like that?? Look, I admit she's pretty good looking, but I'm telling you she has a big attitude...

Anyway, Thursday was a slow day. I mean, who wants to come to the show on a Thursday? For one, its a working day. I met Sam online after I got home that day at 10 pm. I was kinda surprised when she asked if there were any vacancies. Sam doesn't look like the kinda girl who'd go out and work. Anyway, I called Ong, and he said it was okay.

So then came Friday. Same time in the morning, same process, same place. Unfortunatly, the same kind of crowd. Small. But it happened that that was the day Ong brought in the Robosapien. That was when business picked up. Each Robosapien costed at S$149, and we sold about 2 within a few hours! Dr. Chia happened to pass by, and bought the Robosapien straight away. When asked what he's going to do with it, he said "I don't know. It might probably end up in the corner of my room or something..." Err...

Anyway, Sam arrived at 5 that day, just when we met a really challenging customer. He wanted to buy this wireless controller, and he said "If you can get this thing to work, I'll buy it!" Oh, did I mention that the controller was packaged in a "once opened, considered sold" kinda plastic package? Being the confident me, I said "Ok! You're on!" Boy, did I regret that later. It so happened that I COULDN'T get it to work. Chiang called one the people from MobileGear, who were the dealers for that controller. The lady arrived, only to be stumped as well. So she called a colleague, who in turn arrived and called another colleague over before we finally got a hang of the product. 4 people to get one controller to work... how embarrasing. Anyway, we were really grateful to that guy, who happened to be a lecturer from Singapore Poly. That product happened to be the only one we couldn't open up to try, and he let us try the product to use. Phew. So he bought it in the end... after about 45 minutes...

Anyway, as I said, Sam arrived. The first thing Yellow asked was "Is that your girl friend?" I said "No...". Then vanessa came over, and she asked "Is that your girl friend?" I said "No..." Then it was Chiang's turn... gosh... Just because I brought a friend which was a girl... :S

Sam had the same problem. When I went off for awhile, the security guard who sat behind our stall asked her "Is that your boyfriend?" -_-" After I came back, she said "Did you notice that every time the both of us go out together everyone thinks we're a couple?"

I mean, seriously... can't you guys tell a difference between good friends and couple?

Back to serious stuff... On Saturday, Derek didn't come because he had lessons. So it was just Sam and I, along with the rest of the guys. Sam and I stayed outside the booth to handle the accessories section. Then Chiang gave us a box of hard drive casings to try to sell. First of all, no one would want to buy just a hard drive casing. Secondly, if they did, it would be a 3.5" casing, not the 2.5" casing we sold. So as expected, noone bought any for the first few hours. Then Chiang gave us 5 sets of the Live Music B200MT mp3 player to sell. It was a 64mb model, so naturally not much people would want to buy it neither. So Chiang set the price at S$50.

That's right. S$50. I mean, it's a good player!! It was the very player that let Tech-whizZ get to meet Inexus!! S$50?? It was sold at S$200 last time!!

Then at lunch time, a miracle (Praise God...) happened. Within an hour, we sold 16 2.5" Hard Drive Casings and all 5 sets of the mp3 player!! Yea!!

After peak hour, business slowed down again. But more people came and bought accessories in the mean time. Sam and I just sat down and chat.

Those 3 days were really fun days. On the last day, as Ong drove Derek and I home, he asked me "So is Samantha your girlfriend?" Oh for crying out loud!!
