It happened again! :D Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, 8:33 p.m.
I noticed something today. All I'm writing about in the diary is about my boring yet sometimes interesting life. Maybe I should fill it with more interesting stuff? I don't know, just a thought. Anyway, had a talk with my IT Society ExCo members today. It was kinda amazing, cos I sounded like I had prepared stuff to say, but the things I told them just flowed from my mind. I told them that I was suggesting it's time the IT Society enter a change. We've been focusing too much on skills, and we face two problems. One, the members aren't interested, two, the members are below standard. It was only today as I watched Perluca give the Multimedia department members did I see the solution. In summary, IT is a form of art. And art requires creativity. As much as you may have the skills, without the creativity, you won't be able to do great things with them. I suggested they do a daring trick to bring their creativity. Downgrade the members back to the paper and pen. Let their imaginations run wild, and start drawing. Draw interfaces of all sorts, come up with art! I told them to spent some time on it. At least a month. Train their creative juices. After they have their drawings ready, THEN you use IT to turn them into reality. When you've got that, it doesn't matter what program you give them, be it Flash, Frontpage, Photoshop, or even Paint, they'll be able to do wonders with it. All you need is that imagination. Our guys haven't got that creativity, that's why their websites are so below standard. Its time we change the flow and drift away from the paradigms we've been stuck to. Interestingly, after all my talking, I got an applause from them. Hmm... I thought all I did was just share my views... Li Chien even suggested that I go do the next morning's devotion at assembly... Like WOAH. Unlike the last time, I wasn't giving a talk! I don't know, but that is quite... encouraging! Haha... Anyway, I'm supposed to finally, really give a talk to the student leaders next tuesday. My dream finally came true! By the way, creativity is linked with passion, because we consider an art that we like as creative, right? Compassidence rocks! Praise God for letting me discover it. - Daniel
